"Hello everyone and Happy Holidays! It was exactly one year ago today that I adopted the furry love of life, Snickers. He had been one of the dogs seized from the hording situation at Thyme and Sage Ranch. When I first met Snickers, he was a new arrival at HEA with obvious signs of his dark past. He was thin, missing hair around his neck from a collar that had started to embed itself into his neck, and was so meek and unsure about even the littlest things most other dogs in homes take for granted. Having never been in a house before, the first day home was filled with milestones for Snickers. Conquering tile floors, glass patio doors, and countless other new sights, sounds, and smells. At first, anything new would instantly put him belly to the ground and pretending to be invisible. (Who could blame him? He had been born and raised in box with almost no human or animal contact!) However, slowly but surely he grew more confident and relaxed. He started eating better and now weighs in at 55 lbs! He has truly blossomed into an incredible dog! He knows about 25 different tricks, verbally and just by hand signals! Such a smart guy! He's shown some good potential for herding and I hope to start him on sheep in the near future. In June, we adopted a sister for Snickers. A husky/english springer spaniel mix we've named Jetta. The two were made for each other and are often caught in rather obscene make-out sessions. He absolutely adores her and will even stand up for her and "defend her honor" at the dog park if another dog is getting a little fresh with her. (Oh, he isn't in the least bit aggressive either! He'll just shove his way in between Jetta and her harrasser, puff himself up, and give his toughest Aussie bark until they back off.) I just wanted to update you all on how well Snickers is doing and how happy I am to have him in my life, thanks to all of you at HEA. We always say that I didn't find Snickers, he found me and it would never have been possible with out you and the amazing work you do! You have made such a difference in the lives of so many people and animals. Thank you for opening your hearts to all those cats and dogs in need of a second chance, and allowing them to walk into someone else's life and give to them the love and compassion you have given to them.
PS. Snickers still smiles! It's his go-to move for just about everything, but most especially when he's happy! Here is a picture of a very happy Snickers and his sister Jetta."

"For awhile I didn't know about Happily Ever After. Being an animal lover, whenever I found a stray I always made sure and fed them and gave them some water while waiting for my Local Humane Society to show up. I always felt like I was doing something good. Then this year I did some research and 67% of the animals taken in to my local humane society are euthanized. I vowed never again would I send a stray there. From now on they are going to Happily Ever After so that they can have a better chance at a second chance. I've also starting thinking about opening my own no kill shelter in the future. Thank you for saving so many animals and thank you for the yet unsaved!"

"OMG - we are in love with our boy "Drew" a German Shorthaired Pointer we were lucky enough to get from HEA. He is the best listener and is full of love! We were very impressed that Drew was "ready to go" with all up-to-date shots, neutered AND had a microchip. We love-love-love him. Consider looking at his brother "Dexter" who is still up for adoption. If "Dexter" is anything like "Drew" you're in for a treat!"

"I had to give up my Copper, an orange tabby cat, to HEA because they were the only ones I trusted with him. I couldn't have him anymore, and I check the site everyday. I hope to see that he is adoptable. I wasn't upset when he left, but I loved him."

"John and I adopted Calie after meeting her while volunteering and fell in love with her. We kept resisting (why, we're not quite sure) until John's Mom saw us holding her and said 'That's your cat, you know. She's looking for you.' That's when we decided it was time to give Calie her new forever home with us. She is such a wonderful, loving cat and is a great addition to our household. She gets along really well with our other 2 cats."

"At the end of April we had to say goodbye to our 12 year old cat, Bailey, who had cancer. The sadness was overwhelming, so we went to HEA for a new friend. We weren't looking for an older cat, but we found Rufus and couldn't wait to take him home. He is wonderful, has found his voice and his ability to play again! He's been up north already and loves his sunroom. He even tolerates the dog. We are so happy to have him in our family!"

(Quyn also got fixed thru HEA's help and the De Pere Clinic and he is doing awesome! His picture is a few below) Sally got spayed thru HEA's voucher program... She is over a year and also needed some baby teeth removed. She is doing wonderful!! I like how you (HEA) are here to help not only pets....but their families too. :)Thanks!~Rachel"

"I AM SO GREATFUL FOR THE LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM. I THINK VETS AND HUMANE SOCIETIES SHOULD HAVE CLINICS LIKE HAPPILY EVER AFTER DOES BECAUSE THERE WOULDN'T BE SO MANY UNWANTED ANIMALS BEING BORN EVERY YEAR. I CAN'T THANK HAPPILY EVER AFTER ENOUGH. I LIKE HOW THEY ARE A NO KILL SHELTER. WE HAVE A FEED STORE IN ABRAMS WISCONSIN CALLED HORSEPOWER FEED AND NUTRITION AND IF WE EVER CAN GIVE HELP BACK TO THE SHELTER PLEASE GIVE US A CALL 920 826-4410"

"I had to put down my Greyhound and was very lonely, missing her badly. I decided to wait for a while to get another dog. One day my daughter came over and said why don't we just see what Happily Ever After was like. Well let me tell you, what a great place that is. Mr. Reitz was wonderful and showed us all the dogs. That's when I saw Sarah, a French Bull dog. She had come from a place that was not so wonderful. It had 300 dogs so you can imagine what her care was like. We had to wait from June until October to get her because of all the legal stuff going on. She has been a little God send to us! We have renamed her Precious. Which she is of course.! She has trained very easily. She has been a wonderful friend to our 15 year old Beagle. Tom treats her like a little baby and she loves it. When he comes home no one else matters. Thank you HEA for her!! Everyone loves her and can't wait to see her when they come. Again thank you and may God bless all of you for our blessed gift!"

"Last January, we adopted Chloe from HEA. She has been a great addition to our family, so we celebrated our anniversary with Chloe with a little party...and cupcakes!. Chloe's "brother" and "sister," Max and Emily, are pictured here - along with their dad, Rich."
