General Safety Policy

These guidelines are designed to ensure a safe environment for the animals here at Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary Inc. and also for our visitors and staff. Please read them over and abide by them.

  • Advise us if you have any health problems or physical issues of which we should be aware.
  • Children (anyone under the age of 16) must always be under the supervision of a parent or guardian.
  • Non-staff members are allowed in the animal areas of the property only during normal business hours.
  • It is important to wear clothing that is appropriate to this environment and to the work that you are doing. We advise close toed shoes or boots, long pants such as blue-jeans or windpants and a shirt that will protect you from animal scratches.
  • When entering or leaving an animal room/run, be sure to close and latch the door and/or gate behind you. If there is an airlock system, make sure one gate/door is latched before opening the other.
  • When volunteering in an animal area, it is important not to go beyond your comfort zone. Tell a staff member if you would like to change to a different animal area.
  • Please be aware that your behavior will have a pronounced effect on the animals. Calm and gentle behavior helps them. Loud noises, exaggerated gestures, running, horseplay-all of these disturb the animals.
  • Any injury, however small, either to an animal or to yourself, should be reported right away to the manager.
  • Good hygiene can prevent the spread of illness. To protect your health and the health of the animals, please wash your hands after working with the animals and before leaving the animal area. Soap and/or hand sanitizer should be available in ever area-if you don't see any ask an employee.
  • Every time you arrive at Happily Ever After, please check in with a staff member.
  • If you observe a situation with an animal in Waupaca County or the surrounding area of which you do not approve, please inform a staff member. They will notify the proper authority.

Thank you for volunteering your time and caring for our animals. We appreciate your contribution very much, and hope that you and the animals have a great time together.
